Lidl Ribbon Cutting Next Tuesday, Grand Opening Wednesday

The ribbon cutting at the new Lidl at Syland Town Center is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. The store will host a soft opening of the store from 4 to 5 p.m. that day.

The new Lidl (2224 Town Center Dr. SE) will officially open on Wednesday, Sept. 28 with grand opening celebrations. On Wednesday, the first 100 customers in line before the store opens at 8:00 a.m. will be get a special gift card loaded with values ranging from $5 to $100 each. Shoppers can enter to win a $500 Lidl gift card, sample Lidl’s award-winning assortment and take advantage of special giveaways.  

Neighbors are encouraged to come out both days.

The store will operate daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. This will be the first full-service grocery store to open in Wards 7 and 8 in more than a decade.

“We are ready – and the community is ready – to welcome Lidl to Ward 7,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) in a press release. “This grocery store has been a long-time coming, and it is going to help us make Skyland into a true town center. Welcome to DC, Lidl.”

“Lidl’s opening is an exciting step forward for Skyland Town Center, offering our residents at The Crest a top-quality supermarket at their doorstep,” said WC Smith Chairman and CEO Chris Smith. “WC Smith has long been active in Wards 7 and 8, and we appreciate Lidl’s commitment and partnership in providing a much-needed resource for everyone who lives in the neighborhood.”

Lidl is creating more than 60 jobs with the opening of its new Skyland store. Starting pay for Store Associates will be $16.50 per hour, which includes comprehensive benefits. Lidl offers healthcare for all full-and-part-time positions, regardless of hours worked per week.

Throughout the entire grand opening weekend, Wednesday-Sunday, Lidl will donate $1 to the Capital Area Food Bank  for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets Lidl Skyland as their home store.
