The Ward 7 ANC Redistricting Task Force is hosting its second public listening session on Thursday, March 3rd at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the shape of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANC) that will now represent portions of Capitol Hill that recently became part of Ward 7.

This session will focus primarily on SMDs within ANCs 6A and 6B, which after Ward Redistricting are now a part of Ward 7, and ANC 7D. These meetings are open to the public, therefore, please encourage your colleagues, friends, and neighbors to participate.

All residents who live on the odd-numbered side of 15th Street NE and east of that line from Potomac Ave SE to Bladensburg Road NE became Ward 7 residents in the 2020 Census redistricting.  This became final in December 2021 following legislative action by DC Council.
The community is now working to determine what the structure of the future ANCs for that area will look like. Some residents have suggested forming a new “east end” ANC out of the parts of Capitol Hill that were added to Ward 7 as well as those already part of Ward 7 west of the river. There are a few proposed ANC redistricting draft map for the community that are under discussion.
The map above, created by former ANC Commissioner and Ward 7 Committee member Francis Campbell, will be under discussion. It has the support of both ANC 6B Commissioner Denise Krepp (6B10) and Brian Alcorn (6A08) and, Alcorn said in an email, also from community members.
“It incorporates important public policy principles of compact districts, respects natural boundaries (like the Anacostia River), preserves the Kingman Park/Capitol Hill/Hill East communities of interest and should make it easy for all interested residents to participate in meetings and activities when we return to in-person meetings,” Alcorn said. “It also incorporates a unique and important representation for the DC Jail.”
