The Ward 8 Back to School Backpack Giveaway will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 21, at Barry Farm Recreation Center (1230 Sumner Rd. SE).
This event has been rescheduled and relocated; it was originally slated to take place at Gateway DC on Saturday, Aug. 7. If you already registered for the previous date, you are already on the list for Aug. 21 –there is no need to re-register.
Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. (Ward 8-D) in collaboration with Developing Economic Opportunities (DEO) encourages all families to register their students that may need a backpack and schools supplies this year, and come together to the event!
The event will feature:
- Free haircuts & braiders
- Moonbounce and other inflatable carnival activities
- Utility assistance
- Health service providers
- Covid-19 Ambassadors
- Live DJ and more!
To participate in this event, residents must:
- Be a ward 8 resident.
- Present photo ID/Drivers license.
- Present a current utility bill (no older than 3 months) or lease with a Ward 8 address.
- Present a copy of a birth certificate for each participating child.
All giveaway items are available while supplies last. Masks are required for all residents participating in the event. COVID-19 safety protocols will be strictly enforced for the duration of the event.
