The Nationals want to make sure nothing will stop kids from playing ball this summer.
On Saturday, March 13, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball will host a drive-thru PLAY BALL event at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church (2616 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE ) in Ward 8.
To help encourage and promote youth baseball and softball participation, the Nationals and their mascot, Screech, will give away free plastic bats, balls, and other Nationals goodies to young fans within the DC area.
This event is part of MLB’s PLAY BALL at Home initiative, encouraging fans to stay safe at home while finding creative ways to participate in youth baseball and softball activities.
The event will run from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and is open to all children between the ages of 4-18. This socially-distant event will allow participants to remain in their cars and have the items passed through their car windows.
People do not physically need to be in a car to participate in the event. The Nationals are able to accommodate walk-ups while maintaining a social distance. Face coverings will be required.
Fans interested in the event can register at www.playball.org/Events.
