On Feb. 17. Mayor Muriel Bowser appeared to answer a call from White, and declared rising gun violence a “state of emergency”. White is working to start a Ward 8 Comprehensive Public Safety Strategic Plan with short-term, medium-term, and long-term actions to address violence.

Each week, meetings are scheduled with different groups. This week, all nonprofit organizations and community advocates to join the call to add their input to the development of the comprehensive public safety plan.

A draft of the plan is expected to be released in late May or June, 2021.
