Appointments to get the COVID-19 vaccine from the District filled up only hours after the portal opened Monday morning.  But District residents aged 65 and better can get the vaccine from United Medical Center (UMC). You just have to call to schedule an appointment.

Call UMC at 202-574-6473 between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Be ready to give your date of birth, Social Security Number, home address and phone number to the operator.

The vaccine will be provided free of charge, but bring a piece of photo identification.

UMC is administering the Moderna vaccine, which according to the hospital is 94.5 percent effective at decreasing an individual’s chance of contracting the coronavirus when administered properly. That’s the same vaccine being administered by the city.

The Moderna vaccine  requires two doses adminsitered several weeks apart; the operator will schedule two visits.
