On Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser and Greg O’Dell, the President of Events DC, the District’s convention and sports authority, will celebrate the opening of “The Fields at RFK Campus” with city dignitaries and the community. There will also be a special appearance by D.C. United player Wayne Rooney.

This moment marks the first completed program element of the RFK Campus Redevelopment Project.

The celebration will feature two youth clinics provide by D.C. United’s Training Academy and the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. Youth will be available to sign up and participate on-site. Community partner, DC Fray will also host kickball and flag football tournaments, along with a fun spin on traditional tailgating activities including oversized games, complimentary food trucks, family-friendly activities, live music, RFK Untapped Beer Garden and more.

The new fields are the first part of Events DC’s vision for the future of the RFK campus to deliver and are comprised of three multi-purpose recreation and community playing fields. Events DC first presented the plan to the community in 2016 which included recommended program elements from community, stakeholder and city official feedback.

Named “The Fields at RFK Campus” by community-casted votes, the fields have transformed 27-acres of asphalt into a new vibrant sports and recreational destination within the District.

The fields will be managed by Capitol Riverside Youth Sports Park (CRYSP). As the daily operator, CRYSP will be responsible for managing scheduling and field operations and ensuring the utilization of the fields complex for sports clubs, leagues, individuals and other groups seeking to rent and/or use the space. The system for signing up to use the fields is expected to be announced at the fields opening.
