Join Casey Trees in planting an orchard at The Farm at Kelly Miller! Casey Trees will be planting a mixture of fruit trees to help expand the community garden (301 49th St. NE, behind Kelly Miller Middle School) and a few shade trees to the surrounding area. This planting is brought to you through a partnership between the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, The Farm at Kelly Miller, and, of course, Casey Trees!
The Tuesday before this planting, a logistics and directions email will be sent with detailed information about how to get to the site. You will receive this email ONLY if you are signed up for this planting.
Volunteers are welcomed in the morning with light breakfast fare and treated to a celebratory lunch at the conclusion. Indicate dietary restrictions during the online registration process. Drinking water is available throughout the event, but it is highly encouraged to bring a water bottle.
The closest metro station is Benning Road Station which is half a mile away from our planting site. The U5 and U6 bus run on 50th near the planting site. A parking lot is available beside the Kelly Miller Middle School.
Casey Trees has set a goal of attaining 40 percent canopy by 2032; planted over 25,000; educated thousands of residents about the importance of urban tree canopy; supported the tree planting efforts of the D.C. Government, the National Parks Service, community groups and residents alike; inventoried and tracked the District’s tree resources to promote continued public funding for D.C.’s trees; advocated for green, tree friendly development and similar pursuits.
